HERE WE GO AGAIN: ’ZOOLOGY’ CD RELEASE We’ve been away a long time. In the past year we’ve had babies, bought and sold homes, traveled worldwide, changed jobs, grown older and (hopefully) wiser and, yes, recorded our second album of all-new original material. ‘Zoology,’ the follow-up to 2005’s My Music Plan, is finished. You and those you love came and celebrated the release with us at the High Noon Saloon in Madison on Saturday, May 10th 2008. Those in attendance received a free copy of the new record and our eternal gratitude. We had a good time with family and friends and we hope you did as well. We’re trying something different with this album. Whether you receive the record in person or online, 8889 will not make money from its sale and will do as much as possible to provide it free of charge. If you like the record, enjoy truly independent music, and would like to help 8889 recoup some of the costs of its production, please see our homepage for donation information. We love you and thank you in advance for listening. Wait...um, maybe we can. No, we can't. We've decided its high time we go into the studio, crack open the Party Ball, put on the old headphones, and record a second album. Luckily we write as prolifically as we postpone, so we have a huge backlog of new material. The follow-up to last year's My Music Plan should be a blast to make, and we’re sure you’re going to hear our love of music in every last melody, chord, and lyric when the album is released in the spring. Stay tuned… CHILDREN, ‘DANDELIONS,’ 8889 ALL WINNERS Everyone was a winner at the 2006 Madison Area Music Awards, but not everybody was as much of a winner as 8889. Or the children. After being nominated in four different categories, 8889 took home the Best Pop Song MAMA for 'Dandelions' at the March 18th award ceremony! The children took home much-needed funds for Madison school music programs that, until the onset of the MAMA's, were fighting for their very existance. Thanks to the efforts of the organizers and music fans like you, the take this year was spectacular. We sincerely appreciate that so many folks went online to vote and to donate to school music programs. THANK YOU. INTERNATIONAL POP OVERTHROW FESTIVAL We were invited to play what we’re told is the biggest pop music festival in the world: The International Pop Overthrow Festival in Chicago. Two weeks, seven clubs, 160 bands, a ton of great music, all across the greatest big city in the nice guy Midwest. Even Mark went! We performed Saturday, April 22nd at Mother Fool’s Pub on Lincoln Avenue during the highly coveted 2pm slot. Which was better for us because after the gig we cut loose for the rest of the day and saw a whole mess of great bands from all over the country. If you're looking to see some incredible music, we suggest you come down, check out the rest of the festival, and see Chicago at the height of its seasonal beauty! MAMA NOMINATIONS 8889 has been nominated for FOUR Madison Area Music Awards categories this year, including Best New Artist, Best Pop Artist, Best Pop Album for 'My Music Plan', and Best Pop Song for 'Dandelions.' We're hoping that you'll support Madison area school music programs, the local music scene, and maybe even 8889 by taking the time to participate. You win and the children of the Madison School District win. And maybe, come the March 18th MAMA's award ceremony, 8889 wins. Read more here and here. 'MY MUSIC PLAN' LP RELEASE As the world turns, and the leaves turn from summer's deepest green to the golden yellows of fall, so 8889 strode back into your life, refreshed and buoyant, debut LP in tow. My Music Plan, 8889's first full length and the product of more than two years of writing and recording, has been released. And in a big way. We threw an all-important, star-studded party in celebration of the LP and all the friends and family who made it possible at the King Club on Saturday, November 12th. You came in greater numbers than we have ever before seen. Musical guests Jimmy’s Comet, Lucas Jorgensen, and Curfew rocked the sold-out crowd and it was a great time with great people. Thanks for helping us celebrate. ![]() 8889 MP3'S NOW AVAILABLE Broadjam, our favorite music services company, is now selling individual songs from 'My Music Plan.' TRIBUTE TO ELLIOT SMITH 8889 is very proud to announce that "It Takes All Kinds," an original composition and recording, was chosen for inclusion on Double D Records’ Tribute to Elliot Smith. This CD compilation features selected bands from the United States, Japan, Germany and the United Kingdom paying tribute to the late, great Elliot Smith through covers and originals inspired by Elliot's music. We are very grateful for the opportunity to pay tribute to such an incredible artist, and hope you can all take a listen. Please contact us to order a copy. EP RELEASE It was an important time for 8889music.com's NEWS page, and for 8889. Our first ever recording, cleverly entitled "EP," was made available for all the world to enjoy in December of 2004. This gem, priced at an affordable 5 USD, features 4 all-original 8889 compositions including Dandelions, The New You, If I Run, and My Music Plan, and we can't wait for you to hear it. Click here to get your copy of what, out of necessity, is a limited edition print. In celebration of this important event, we threw a CD Release Party at Madison's High Noon Saloon. Everyone who came to see 8889 with The Moon and Mars during the treacherous "Blizzard of '05" received a complimentary copy of our new EP and our eternal gratitude. They also had a good time while they heard some good music. Not a bad deal in our opinion, especially for a show that critics from the Isthmus, the Onion, and Coreweekly all picked as an Event-of-the-Week. We thank those of you who came down to the show. ![]() |
